A true original. When listening to his voice, the terms âgravellyâ and âwhiskey soakedâ come to mind. This is a man who has lived; heâs been around the block and back, seen every high and low and come out the other side.

ROD DOWSETT
Behind Rodâs emotionally charged vocals are the stories he writes from his own experiences.

His music is raw â itâs OUTLAW music.

Late 2003 Rod made his way into the studio to record an EP titled âSix Tracks Downâ, at Valley Sound Studio Dairyville. Nestled in the rolling forest mountains behind Coffs Harbour, it was the perfect backdrop to create his music. With the help of a couple of great friends producer Pete Dyball and the inspirational Bill Chambers (Dead Ringer Band/Kasey Chambers), Rod was able to produce a remarkable recording that gained recognition from his peers.

Early 2003 saw Bill Chambers & Audrey Auld invite Rod to perform with them during Tamworth and it was described as âthe best sound on the streets in five yearsâ. This sound also resulted in Rod being chosen to perform in the Buskers Championships at Bicentennial Park in front of thousands of people in 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006 respectively and overall winner of the Charters Towers Country Music Festival Busking Championship for 2007.

Rod has shared the stage with other notable artists such as Dave Glesson (Screaming Jets) and The Stiltsons, and has performed at numerous festivals throughout Australia including Gympie Muster, Urban Country Muster, Charters Towers CMF, Tamworth CM Festival and Hats Off To Country.

Late 2005 saw Rod release his debut album âDodging Bulletsâ - an album that takes you on a journey of tales. Rod bares his soul on tracks such as âIâll Never Understand Whyâ & âThrill Of The Chaseâ to the simple âI Got Me A Boatâ and title track âDodging Bulletsâ.

âFor a relative newcomer Rod captures a quality in his music that many seasoned veterans would be envious ofâ¦. Thereâs a country rock quality about Rod but he doesnât go far from the traditional feelâ¦.Rod Dowsett has a fresh sound, most importantly itâs his own and he isnât trying to be anybody elseâ¦.Great lyrics, great sound and great potentialâ¦.Give this a bit of volume on the stereo and youâll be impressed!â Bob Anthony Jnr, The Daily News

His single âI Got Me A Boatâ received national airplay, including ABC Radioâs show Saturday Night Country, making its Hottest 100 Tracks, reaching the Top 100 Country Hits Chart, plus the film clip hit CMC screens.

Rod was also honoured with three songs securing finalist spots in the Top 100 2005 Musicoz Awards Country Artist of the Year â they were âDodging Bulletsâ, âRobbinâ & âDrunken Arseholeâ.

His singles âThrill Of The Chaseâ - a great rockabilly number, full of edge and attitude, that immediately shouts âturn the volume up!â, made Top 70 on the Top 100 Country Hits chart â and âKillinâ Timeâ â a blues-roots tune â both received great support on radio across the country.

â..I compared Rod Dowsettâs music to an onion â it might have a strong flavour but it can sure make you cry.â Deborah Minter, CapNews

Rod headed back into the studio with producer Pete Dyball and the result is Rodâs second album âRhyme Or Reasonâ. Released early this year, Rod has already received much hype from industry insiders. With the opening track âFly Awayâ caressing your ears, âCountry Livingâ making you swing and smile, the gritty story of âTobacco Mayâ, or acoustic âWhere Roses Thriveâ, the album has flavours for all tastes.

His first single âFly Awayâ has been added to music channel CMC, while âCountry Livingâ has been released to North America and Europe as a single.

Add a little excitement in your life with âRhyme Or Reasonâ â have a listen to what this outlaw has to say.

ROD DOWSETT Independent

Iâm a sucker for a gravel-voiced smoky country bar-room tenor. Add the fact that Iâm a child of the seventies with fond memories of long-haired bad boy Romeos and ROD DOWSETT fits the bill to perfection. His new album Rhyme Or Reason is a follow up to his 2005 CD Dodging Bullets. Once more, his songwriting skills delve into dark and thought-provoking subjects. The title track is a disturbing look at suicide and depression. Country Living is about the attraction of a âtree changeâ from city living to country freedom. Tobacco May is a backwoods anthem. Itâs My Shout is a surefire rocking fun hit. Bread Crumbs is sad ballad of hard times. Pretty And Small is a tragic lullaby to a tiny struggling life â a song that reveals Rodâs tender heart. Rod Dowsettâs music is like an onion; it might have a strong flavour but it can sure make you cry.

RHYME OR REASON
ROD DOWSETT INDEPENDENT
Rod Dowsett, hailing from Coffâs Harbour, has emerged as a talented songwriter and performer with the release of his second album, Rhyme or Reason. This is a diverse album containing songs that will move you, those that will amuse you, and most of all songs that are real and come from the heart. The title track will grab you and have you reaching for the repeat button. Whilst an intensely personal and sad song, it rolls along with a slightly upbeat tempo and very catchy banjo, played by Pete Dyball, who also produced the album. Fly Away is a superb ballad that is worthy of much airplay.
Other tracks that are on the sad side include Tobacco May, Thankyou, Bread Crumbs and the beautiful acoustic number, Where Roses Thrive where Rodâs acoustic guitar sets the mood perfectly. But itâs not all sad songs; country rockers such as Country Living, Itâs My Shout and 12 Foot Tinny will have you up and dancing. For me , Rodâs album reminds me of past good times, sad times and never fails to impress me. If you like your country music leaning towards the Outlaw genre, but with an Australian flavour, then this album is for you. Rodâs vocals have a distinct rough, but appealing quality to them that grows on you (just ask my wife.). He would not be out of place in a smoky barroom filled with drunks, desperadoes and dreamers. All of the songs are original and are as good as anything by Jerry Jeff Walker or Hank Williams, Jr. Backing music is tight and pleasing to the ear. If you havenât already figured it out, I like this album a lot, and would recommend it to anyone. I look forward to seeing Rod make a big impact in country music.
