Greetings Earthlings, welcome to the Sonic Manipulatorium âthe Alien Orchestra I have built up over the years. The Claudatron is my favourite, capable of making haunting Theremin like melodies, funky bass lines and electronic percussion. The Rap Rod covers audio âscratchingâ duties, with liberal use throughout the CD. The Radiolion (eight radios in a box) samples the airwaves via eight on off buttons, very random but great for looping. The Fone-a-phone features on Lonely Alien and The Manipulatorium, which is in fact a little demo of many of my gadgets and of course being a synthesist there are many keyboard parts and solos where I make use of physical modelling technology with much expressive control over the pitch and timbre. My musical influences are everything from Beethoven to Zappa, with sprinklings of 40âs big band, 50âs Sci-Fi movies and 60âs cartoons â just mix it up in a Sonic soup and serve at Astro Raves.
