Artist Biography
S.O.D. (Son Of Detroit) is a rap artist in his mid 20âs from the west 7 Mile area of Detroit, and has been recording music since 1998. With his debut release Live From Detroit in 2000 SOD has built a small following of loyal listeners. The best aspect of this artist repertoire is he isnât trying to be one dimensional or the un articulate super tuff guy drug dealer that seems to be the outline for most Detroit artist. In his music you will find humor, introspection, playerism, the streets, and partying. He truly, as an artist has a distinct identity.
S.O.D. is the owner of Moettown Records started in 2000. The label has a 5 album library. S.O.D. has 3 Live from Detroit 2000, Flash 2004 and Thirst for the Shine Again 2006; one by Rattic: Product of My Environment 2003 and D-League Compilation Volume 1 2006. The company is in the process of recording a spoken word album. All of which S.O.D. was the acting executive producer. All of this was done with no investors on a waiterâs salary by a part time student. S.O.D. is a very creative, resourceful, intelligent and ambitious individual.
Frequently attending open mics in Detroit he has developed a rapport with many of Detroitâs premier underground artist. He has access to all the technical and human recourses to run a completely independent music recording operation.
In his eight years of doing music he has worked with several local artists. However the artist he seems to work the best with is Nickel-Slick who also has done the majority of his production. On his newly released 3rd album âThirst for the Shine Againâ SOD and Nickel-Slick collaborated on many of the albums hottest tracks. On tracks such as âEverydayâ(an rap ballad) the two create a sound that many artist in the industry havenât attempted, a rap you can ballroom to. Then there are the party tracks âTime to Splitâ and âLiquor in My Cupâ which have a movement to them that makes people want to party.
S.O.D. is the future of Detroit rap music.
