Her name is Dana Abbott. Determined since the age of 4 to be a âsinger starâ Dana began her career by getting involved in school/church choirs in her hometown of Burlington, VT. Showing dedication and passion at such an early age she began to pick up steam...as well as other instruments. She started with piano, then the cello, percussion and melodic percussion. Though a classically trained pianist, Dana found sanctuary in her parentsâ collection of Motown, fostering a deep love for R&B as well as Chicago Blues. At the age of 16 Dana taught herself guitar, starting writing music and hasnât since stopped. At the age of 18 Dana decided to move to Chicago, drawn to itâs blues roots that had so inspired her growing up. Shortly upon her arrival she fronted a band called âBlue Judithâ for a few years. When the band went their separate ways, Dana continued her solo pursuits. Her canon of songs began getting increasing attention, particularly from musicians from New Orleans, who encouraged her to move to a city where music is a way of life. In June of 2005, at 23 years old, she left Chicago for the Crescent City â 2 months before Katrina. During the recover of herself and her city a myspace Cinderella story took place. Malcolm Burn (Produced Emmylou Harris âRed Dirt Girl,â Iggy Pop âAmerican Caesar,â Chris Whitley âLiving with the Law,â Midnight Oil âBreathe,â Sinead Lohan âNo Mermaid,â String Cheese Incident âOne Step Closer,â John Mellencamp âHuman Wheels,â and engineered/mixed many artists.) had fallen upon her site, one thing led to another and she was on a plane to record an EP in New York.

The resulting 6 â song EP is âHalfway Homeâ which includes âAvenue Aâ a moving eulogy to new Orleans she came to know all too briefly. So far her work is generating buzz and a snowballing schedule of performances. While Danaâs story is a riveting and exciting one, it is ultimately ancillary to her music. Her voice is captivating, her songs are stellar, and she never plays a gig without giving everything she has.
