Just the facts:
-Born in 1955, Buffalo, NY (churches, bars, Italians, and depressed football fans)
-Buffalo Bills fan (the sports equivalent of Buffalo's endless cloudy days)
-Father - Methodist minister
-Home filled with music, mostly church music (leading to an intense need to provide non-lame musical alternatives to young church folks)
-Christianity in various forms has had a significant impact, for both good and not so good
-Hitchhiking around the country (homelessness by choice) from 1971 to 1976
-Has been performing stand up comedy and many kinds of music in all kinds of venues large and small for more than 30 years (gifted non-success)
-Degree in Biblical Studies; advanced degrees in the Humanities and Secondary Education
-A few past and present jobs: janitorial, day labor, library, tree-trimming, aerospace-defense, teaching, writing
-Loves words and language
-Books published: Little Crucifixions; Poets, Prophets and Healers; The Book of Fragments; Songs of Sound View
-Seemingly generally poor social skills (the usual label is "weird")
Who are the "Friends"?
Gary Eldridge (bass, acoustic lead, background vocals) was originally from Hornell, NY. A brilliant student - much sought after by universities upon his graduation from high school. He decided instead to take some time off from education and hitchhike around the country with Don - 1971-72. (Ah! The stories we could tell!) In those early days, he played in several successful local bands, including The Lost Cause, Zeminon and Ulysses, an accomplished musician on several instruments. He currently lives and works in upstate New York.
Tom House: Another Hornell native, he and Don (a drummer at that time) began playing music together in 1970. Tom was the lead guitarist for Zeminon and Ulysses. Lost contact after the live concert recorded on this CD. Tom, are you out there? The good news: there's a royalty check waiting for you. The bad news: it's for $12.94.
