A current resident of the Greater Houston, Texas area, he was born in Memphis, Tennessee and has resided in the Greater Hampton Roads, Virginia area. Ordained as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ, his conviction is to give God excellence in ministry and encourage God's people to incorporate worship into their daily lives. EJ Strong is a member of the Houston Chapter of the Gospel Music WOrkshop of America and the national mass choir of the Church of God in Christ. Other credentials include, certificates in classical music studies from Rhodes College, Memphis, TN (formerly Southwestern at Memphis), major in Business Management, Hampton University (formerly Hampton Institute), Hampton, VA. Among his favorite artists are Edwin Hawkins and Walter Hawkins, with whom he recently recorded, Richard Smallwood, Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole, Pastor John P. Kee, Daryl Coley, Dorothy Norwood, Dottie Peoples, Vickie Winans, Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Donnie McClurkin, Elder Timothy Wright, V. Michael McKay, and Dr. Judith Christie-McAllister.
