The original hammered dulcimer music of Gary Duncan grew out of the desire of a drummer to make notes. Gary has played drums since he was 5 years old and played in popular local bands in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in the 1980s and 1990s. Over the years all of is band mates moved away and he attempted to learn to play guitar to enable him to be a stand-alone musician. The guitar playing attempt did not work well but he came across a hammered dulcimer in a used music store and had fun trying it out and bought it. The original compositions he creates on the dulcimer are founded in rhythm as mush a melody and reflect his percussive background. His live performances in North Carolina in small venues and music festivals are enthusiastically and warmly received.
