Details:
Japan Seoul self-released their first full-length album âSoul Foodâ in October 2007. The music takes disparate elements of soul, synth-pop, rock, and gospel music and unifies them with an art-rock sensibility. Vocalist Jason Paul's memorable melodies and distinct baritone evokes plastic soul-era David Bowie, while the band's chaotic, free-form yet sophisticated musical approach recalls early Roxy Music, combined with an ever-present danceable groove.
Japan Seoul formed in late 2006 in New York City. The band is songwriter/producer/artist Jason Paul, former members of the late great NY rock trio THE VITAMEN, David Rozner, Jesse Blockton, and Matt Hyams, along with music journalist and saxophonist, DaVe Lipp, and keyboard whiz Tris McCall, who's worked with several notable NY rock bands such as Overlord, KapOw! and Palomar.
âSoul Foodâ takes the listener on a spiritual journey through music by tackling themes like death, god, salvation, and enlightenment with an occasional nod to love and sex. However, 'Soul Food' never really settles on life's answers since most of it's conclusions seem to deliberately contradict each other. Ultimately, this is a work of artifice. This is Plastic Soul.
