The artist Jay Battle , formerly known as âYoung Jayâ, started rapping at the age of 13. By the age of 23 he had started his own record label. He then followed with the release of his first album, âBe A Fan 4 Lifeâ. This was followed by âWelcome 2 tha Gameâ in 1998. The focus and direction of jay battles songs have been very true to life. They have focused on independent money, hustling, street life survival, and the entrepreneurial mind. The artist Jay Battle was born in San Leandro, but grew up in the hard streets of east Oakland. These same streets have been the home to such noted artists as , âToo Shortââ, âRichie Richâ, M.C. Hammer, and âToni Toni Toniâ. Jay Battle has been featured with various noted rappers, singers, and entertainers from the bay area. This has included projects with âKing Georgeâ ,former member of the âMaster Pâ group, âTruâ. This also included the albums,âtru playerâand the âPlayas and Hustlasâ compilation. The song ,âjack materialâ, from the âplayas and hustlasâ compilation was featured in ârap sheet magazineâ. The magazine made it a point to note that âyoung jayâ was the most promising artist on the featured tracks. This same album streaked to 59 on billboard charts top 100. Jay battle then exploded on the scene with his solo release,âyoung jayâ, âwelcome to the gameâ. As a result of this release, the top music representatives of the bay area were all ears.
