âI sing because Iâm happy, I sing because Iâm freeâ is the line from this 33-year-old artistâs favorite song. Jermia Paulyn Cannon, born in Dallas, TX, and raised in a town called Texarkana, has been blessed with a voice that not only captures attention, but the hearts of all those that hear her. She was raised in the admonition of holiness and is highly supported by her parents, Bishop Paul and Evang. Cannon. She is the oldest of five. She has three brothers and one sister and she loves them all very much. She has learned to be the best example that a sister and an older child can be. âMy entire family has been blessed with gifts of music. All of my brothers and my sister got involved and helped me tremendously on my first album.
Jermia has been singing gospel music ever since she was 11 years old. She started out in her music career playing the drums, moving up to piano, and presently plays the organ for her church. Jermia grew up in church and has been singing in church all of her life. She has been raised on solid principles of giving and living for God. She always had a desire to sing, but didnât always know how to sing. âGod blessed me with all that I have. I had a desire to sing and God honored my request. The more that I put into perfecting that which I was given, the more the Lord blesses me.â says Jermia. She has learned that humility is the way to go when singing for the Lord. âI had to learn that God was in control of it all, not me. I learned my lesson when I first started singing. That lesson was to keep a leveled head and always give God the glory for it all.â
She has been blessed to be a part of a growing ministry that supports her fully. Full Gospel Holy Temple, Inc. ministry, overseen by the Apostle Lobias Murray and his wife Evang. Shirley Murray, has been a great part of Jermiaâs career. âThis ministry has taught me to live the word that I sing about in my songâ, says Jermia, âand I plan to do that with all of my heart.â Every where she goes, FGHT is right there backing her up and encouraging her to go ahead. She has been featured on their CD project, the Full Gospel Holy Temple Founderâs Mass Choir, âWhen I need Him Mostâ¦Heâs Thereâ, singing one of the highly favored songs, âAnointingâ.
Jermia has been truly blessed and anointed to sing, play, and write songs. She has had the opportunity to be in the presence of great artists such as Karen Clark-Sheard, Kim Burrell, Twinkie Clark-Terrell, Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, Beverly Crawford, Dottie Peoples and others.. She has been privileged to sing in different areas of the United States and overseas. God has blessed her and has taken her to heights unknown. She carries a humble spirit and she seeks for the more of God. âI just want to do the will of him that sent me and I want to be pleasing in his sight. Iâve learned that if I donât give to him that which he requires of me, then he has all the right to take it and give it to someone else. I donât want any rock crying out for me, and so I give my all to God to make sure that doesnât happen.â She not only sings because sheâs happy, and because sheâs free, but she sings because she loves to be a help to others. Truly she has a heart of gold, a smile like the sun, and a voice of a heavenly dove. Her first project says it all; she definitely does sing FROM THE SOUL. Since her 2002 debut, sheâs recorded her sophomore CD live in Texarkana entitled, âITâS MY TIME NOW!â Sheâs by no means hiding her talents in the sand, but sheâs singing with passion this gospel message of Jesus Christ to help encourage, uplift, and bless some lost soul.
