Following on from âGrace is the Oceanâ (1999) â my first attempt to professionally capture the best songs of praise that Iâd written up to that point â and âGruntâ (2006) â an original Easter musical with a distinctive Aussie feel, written in collaboration with Wal Spencer â comes my most mature collection of devotional songs to date, âThe Message of the Crossâ.

With this selection, Iâve sought to make the message clearer by keeping the arrangements simpler. Youâll notice a distinct country feel in some of the songs â certainly more pronounced than on my past albums. This comes in part from the influence of the Aboriginal Christian community of my Australian country home town, Narrandera. The songs are more acoustically driven than on previous releases, and thereâs even a touch of Bodidley. I sing many of these songs at church with the congregation.
