The Leafhoppers began playing together in Corvallis, OR around 2005 at the local farmers' market performing with as many as seven musicians. People gathered around and kids especially loved their unique sound and fresh energy. Eventually the group, distilled down to the core trio, started playing more venues and festivals. In 2007, they released their first full length album and were featured entertainers at the Oregon Country Fair.

The Leafhoppers are unique because they combine unusual combinations of instrumentation with a myriad of musical styles. Deb OConnor (Debo) channels spirit energy into her hammered dulcimer compositions inspiring the soul and tickling the intellect. Jefe Contreras (upright bass) adds a jazz/funk feel as support and improvisational solos. Rigel Woodside stirs up the crowd with his unorthodox technique on the washboard, woodblock, tambourine, djembe, and percussion toys.
