The singer and poet left Goiás, in Brazil, in 1970 during the military dictatorship that broke-up her family. She went from the backlands of Goiás, with its Savannah farms, and forests, to New York City.

In 1986, Maguinha went from New York to Italy and spent the next decade raising her children, and working in-between the two countries. Then, for a brief time she was in Brasilia, in the Minister of Culture, working closely with Ministers Antonio Houaiss, Jeronimo Moscardo, and Luiz Nascimento e Silva.

She came to Miami in 1997 from Mill Valley, California,
and was hired at the Haitian Tap Tap on South Miami Beach, to sing with legendary Haitian singer and songwriter Manno Charlemagne, and his Tap Tap Band - with whom she collaborated to make the album "Manno at Tap Tap",in 2002.

In Miami, she is active in language conversion and music production for image, film projects and television shows. She is married to Norwegian clarinetist and geological-engineer Knut Garshol and has two children, Janaina and Max Panconesi, from a previous marriage.

Her independent discography includes: De Verde e Luz (Brazil, 1983), Earth and Sky (Orlando, 2005), The Sound and The Feeling, a free-jazz project with Saulo Ferreira, (Miami, 2006), and an album of all original works, Voyage to Vera Cruz, with award winning guitarist Douglas Lora (Hollywood, 2007). http://www.concertartists.org/brasil_bio.htm
