Back in Minnesota after three years living on the Zuni Indian reservation in New Mexico, David returns to his rock/pop roots with a new band and CD, Stepping On My Hat. The disc gives a nod to the energy of the early Police but establishes David as an artist with a contemporary sound all his own.

His previous CD, ZUNI, is a spare, acoustic production that puts the focus on his songs and voice, and reflects the simplicity and spirit of his time in Zuni. His first release, Heaven, was released in 1997 featuring many accomplished twin-cities musicians, including David Barry - guitar (Janet Jackson, Cher, K.D. Lang, Branford Marsallis); Paul Peterson - bass (Prince, the Family, Steve Miller, George Benson, many others); and Rick Barron - co-writer and background vocals.
