Details:
Recliner are collective of musicians from Auckland New Zealand who are passionate about writing a good tune & creating slices of mood. Formed in 2004 they set about writing & demoing a swag of songs, performing in low key venues & developing the Recliner sound. In 2005 they put together Control Tower studios where through the dark winter Months they recorded their debut Album REST ROOM. Come Spring it was time for a mix engineer to shed light & fresh ears on the project, for this Recliner chauffered their songs across town to Producer "Dave Holmes" where he set about mixng them like a Moscow mule. The album was completed by early 2006 & slid into NZ music stores May 2006 to enthusiastic reviews. The REST ROOM photography by Vocalist Belinda Bradley was a finalist in the 2007 Independent Music Awards, and a fistful of songs from the album were playlisted on US College Radio with chart sucess throughout March & April of 2007. The video Clip for "UGLY" took out Best Music Video @ the FEAR NO FILM/ UTAH ARTS FEST held in June 2007, & was selected as a finalist in the "WE ARE LISTENING", New Music Video Awards in July 07, & has also been selected to air at DIGIFEST in Florance Italy, August 2007. Recliner are currently behind the REST ROOM door dreaming up new Tunes for the next album appearing only for a few select shows.
REST ROOM REVIEWS
âRecliner's songs have a dark, hypnotic beauty that breeze along on mellow atmospheric guitars, poignant keys and gentle beatsâ¦
â¦a luxuriously-produced, tastefully decorated trip-pop album for the post-Portishead generationâ¦
The recording quality cannot be faulted. Everything from the jagged guitars to the ambling drums and warm synths is expertly captured to give a haunting, dreamy effectâ¦â
NZ HERALD Rebecca Barry
"Grown up seductive pop...with an underbelly of guitar noise... They've written a stunning New Zealand pop album...exquisitely done"
NEWSTALK ZB - Phil Yuleâ¨
âIn fact, the sonic layering on display throughout the album is nearly as much of a highlight as the sultry vocals of the two singersâ¦reminiscent of the Bristol trip hop bands Massive Attack and Portishead. â¦a couple of tunes that allow the band to go into full riff-rock mode ('Something She Said' features a chorus that could have come straight off the Shihad 'how-to-rock' handbook), and you've got an album packed full of great songs.â
