The Sad Little Stars are a 5-piece electronic rock band based in Brooklyn, NY. They perform frenetic dance pop with the energy of a high school pep squad on speed.

They are also award-winning multi-media auteurs.

Their newest release, The Stop Motion Breakdown, features songs that drive the blood, tap the feet, bounce the head, and short-circuit the brain.

The Sad Little Stars began as the collaboration of two fun-loving Brooklyn geniuses, Max Low & Rachel McIntosh.

Back in 2003, Max aligned himself with producer Brad Albetta (Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson), and recorded The Stars Below, a magical collection of romantic pop gems. The Stars Below bursts with sweeping harmonies, synthesized riffs, folk instruments and electronic drum beats.

Incredibly, the duo was able to capture the lush majesty of this CD in their live performances. Max and Rachel kicked pedals, looped guitar and bass parts, played keyboards, triggered drum machines and sang their asses off all at the same time.

"They go from sounding like a Strokes-ish indie rock band to a shadowy cabaret act to brokenhearted bedroom crooners in just minutes!" raved Patrick Foster of The Washington Post.

Shortly after the CD's release, Rachel produced and directed "Don't Fuck With Love," a stop-animation video based on one of the CD's more adorable ditties. It won numerous awards and established The Sad Little Stars as DIY multi-media impresarios with their own unique signature.

In The Stop Motion Breakdown, their 2007 release, The Sad Little Stars expand upon the electronic elements they used before and transform their ambient drifting melodies into driving dance beats. Crammed with hooks and edgy keyboard riffs, The Stop Motion Breakdown reflects Max and Rachel's obvious love for the classic pop form. It also brims with an infectious, sometimes anarchic, joy in pure sonic expression.

And a word about the packaging. At a time when audiophiles lament the ascendancy of the MP3, The Sad Little Stars have constructed a one-of-a-kind hand-made mechanical CD flip book! Yes, once again Max and Rachel prove that they are their own unregulated cottage industry of the fantastical.

To recreate the adrenaline rush of these new songs live, the duo has enlisted the expert, hard-rocking assistance of Jeff Harrigfeld on drums, Roland Auer on bass and Riley McMahon on guitar. This allows Max and Rachel the freedom to slam it hard on keys and vocals, and to indulge in the sassy upfront showmanship the music calls for.

The result is a one-of-a-kind rock experience that has to be heard and seen to be believed.

The Sad Little Stars actively tour the east coast and have performed CMJ 2003-2006. Their music video for "Don't Fuck With Love" has been featured on the Independent Film Channel and continues to tour the globe with various film festivals including Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted. It has won awards including best music video at The Animation Block Party in New York, best music video at the Golden Star Shorts Festival in Los Angeles and second place for best music video at 2006 SXSW to name a few.

They are currently planning the tour for their latest release The Stop Motion Breakdown.
