Samuelâs second full-length CD is dedicated to the multitude of children in the world who along with their families face cancer in their lives every day. This CD was inspired by their courage and determination. With these songs, Samuel hopes to provide a little shelter, a place where we can go to dream and forget for a while, the difficult times. A place where we can all light up our dreams, that place where it is easier to believe that anything is possible. Such as on track 17 where Samuel Sixto and Award Winning singer Kim Kuzma take us for A Walk on the Clouds. Kim Kuzma lends her beautiful voice and uplifting energy to this inspirational song, reminding us that we donât need wings to fly.
Other musical guests who joined Samuel on this adventure include Geneviève Chassé, Amélie Lefebvre, Josée Allard, long time friends from Switzerland Stéphanie Palazzo and Laurence Michaud, plus Cynthia Hall, Franz Lefort, and Samuel introduces Michèle Garceau and teen adventurer Brandon Schupp, along with several children who also lend their voices to a few of the tracks.
Next to the popular songs (Sur le Pont du Nord, Meunier tu dors, Le Chat de la Mère Michel, Il était une Bergère and more), the CD contains a cover of Le petit Cheval, a song by Georges Brassens, a famous French songwriter who died from the affects of cancer, and original songs by Sixto including La Chanson de Brandon, inspired by the courage and the determination of a young man (Schupp), who climbs a different mountain somewhere in the world every year to help raise money for children with cancer. Brandon Schupp was invited by Samuel Sixto to sing on the song that tells his story.
Les Allumeurs de Rêves is performed mostly in French but contains a few bilingual songs and a couple of instrumental tracks. This recording is intended mainly for grown-ups but offers something for children of all ages. As well Samuel doesnât forget his classical training, and includes references to Beethoven, Debussy and Schubert in his music.
Through the gift of music, Samuel Sixto's new recording opens us up to the intensity surrounding such a tragic disease as cancer. Many of the songs talk about death and mature subjects but with the innocence of a child and leave us with the feeling that everything will be alright.
Les Allumeurs de Rêves (The Dream Lighters) is a 2007 Western Canadian Music Awards Nominee for Outstanding Francophone Recording of the Year.
