Since first established in 1908, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma has gone through many changes, from our name OCW to USAO, from a Womanâs College to Coed. With all of the changes, there is one thing that has remained steadfastâ¦our dedication to the students. We understand each generation will bring change. They will bring us all into a new era.

While holding fast to the values of the past, with each generation, we stand true to our mission. Though ever-changing, we understand yesterday is the foundation on which to base our future.

The songs on this album represent a history of jazz music. Many may have been played by the all girl bands in the 30âs and 40âs when USAO was known as OCW. Each generation has recorded these songs. Every possible style of music and musician has carried the songs into their eraâ¦their way.

Songs like âGeorgia,â âRoute 66,â and âSwayâ are perfect examples of how the past can be embraced by the present and be carried into the future. Director of the USAO Showband, Joe Settlemires says, âThis album is the way the current Showband is leaving their legacy. All proceeds from the sale of this album will help establish a scholarship fund for future Showband members.â

The USAO ShowBand travels Oklahoma and beyond as ambassadors for the University of Science and Arts. The group is led by nationally acclaimed western swing and jazz guitarist and impresario Joe Settlemires, whose long career in the recording industry has brought new opportunities to USAO students.
