I was very fortunate to have a mother who listened to all types of music. From Miles Davis, Harry Belafonte, The Beatles, Beethoven, Patsy Kline, Stevie Wonder and more.
When I was around 5 years old, we were at the record store. I saw this red album with a black cannon on it, I begged my Mom to buy it. She kept saying "You won't like it", but I loved it. It was the 1810 overture with the cannon blast at the end. I got the chopsticks out and pretended I was conducting! I really love all genres of music.
I had a rather tumultous family life. By the time I was 9, my parents had divorced 3 times.
My first introduction to the Gospel, was my first foster home. When I started living there, I could feel the difference. It was like walking from a dark room into a light one!
After being put through about 9 foster homes throughout a 2 year period.
I started taking piano lessons shortly after I was baptized. When I was 12, I joined a jazz band and learned about chords, how they are the structure of a song. I would play chords for hours. It was very fascinating to me. Not like practice!! I started singing to the chord progressions and then either asked people to put words in. Or did it myself. By the time I was 16, I was writing as much as I could. A friend of mine, Laurie Hershey, who sang like an angel, convinced me to go to the State Fair. We won best of Show!!
I kept plugging along writing, when I was recently married, I attended a workshop by Buddy Kaye. He promptly ripped my song into shreds and it felt like he threw Me in the fire rather than the song. But what emerged from the ashes was a songwriter. I now had the tools to craft a song, "no wasted words", "write to Title", "use associated words" etc.

Although it took me longer to write lyrics. I was getting better as anyone does with practice!! I feel that my lyrics are very direct. They shape the music.
I tried to break into the Los Angeles market for about 10 years.

The Lord took me a different direction, after a very spiritual experience. I began to deeply study the scriptures. I wrote the musical "One Truth - He Lives" about 11 years ago. We kept moving and having babies. And so that's why it hasn't really been performed much until now.

Wow, I really feel like I'm writing a novel here. I was born Sept. 29, 1962. Baptized Dec. 23, 1973. Married to Odell Loveland:) on March 4, 1983. We have 5 beautiful children, Sam 23, Rachel 20, Jacob 18, Joseph 11 and Esther who is 6.
