Violet Lyal was formed in 2005 over the creation of their debut CD "The Sky Floats". Recorded in their basement, the project was an attempt to test the potential and boundries of instrumentalist--Les Hartai and singer/songwriter--Michelle Groves.

Michelle writes off the heels of the great many road trips up through the beautiful and unforgiving landscape of northern Ontario. Her writing is driven by characters emblazoned with confession, and struggling with the suprising circumstances of their lives...

The landscape for these characters is created by Les, predominantly through the use of mind-wrenching guitar work colliding with the sometimes peculiar noise based electronic samples of every day.

The CD was released at the end of summer 2006, mostly to club owners and campus radio. The response is good. "The Sky Floats" has made itself home on various campus radio stations' charts across Canada and the United States, reaching number 4 in the west. The CD has lately been featured on the CBC, (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).

Meeting the immediate demand, Michelle and Les sought out their rhythm section. Steve Clark--drums and Luke Ellis--bass, joined the band in September. These guys help create an enthusiastic and toe-tappin' live show that moves around the foundation and up through the walls!
