His appearances have included numerous recitals as well as concerto performances, notably in Paris at the Salle Gaveau and the Cité de la Musique and in New York at the Staller Center for the Arts. He has participated in several festivals, including the Holland Music Sessions, the Killington Festival and the Rome Music Festival. An active chamber musician, he plays regularly at the Garth Newel Music Center and has been featured with the American Chamber Players, the Kennedy Center Chamber Players and the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society. He has also collaborated with many renowned musicians such as Lambert Orkis, Emmanuel Ax and Andres Diaz. Currently, Laurent is a member of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. Prior to this he played with the Orchestre de Paris, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the San Francisco Symphony and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra among other ensembles. A graduate of the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris Laurent also holds a Masterâs degree in Literature from the Sorbonne University. In the United States, he studied at the Manhattan School of Music as a Fulbright scholar, and completed his doctoral degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His teachers have included Suzanne Gessner, Jean Lenert, Jacques Ghestem and Mitchell Stern. He was awarded a second prize in the 1995 Vierzon International Sonata Competition and was a semi-finalist in the 1999 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition. Laurent has participated in several televised educational programs presented by the Kennedy Center Performing Arts Series and in a Smithsonian DVD on Schoenberg featuring Verklaerte Nacht and the First Chamber Symphony. Pianist John Milbauer has performed frequently across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and his concerts have been broadcast on radio and television stations on three continents. Recording projects include CDs with pianist Paulina Zamora (Eroica Classical) and violinist David Garrett (Samon/Universal). Milbauer has been a frequent guest at music festivals such as the Banff Centre, Ernen Musikdorf, the Chautauqua Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Sierra Summer Festival, and the Escuela Moderna in Chile. He has performed as soloist with orchestras in New York, California, Wisconsin, and Canada, and has collaborated with members of the Metropolitan Opera, National Symphony, National Orchestra of France, L.A. Philharmonic, and New York Theatre Ballet. Having won prizes from the Institute for International Education, the Hungarian Ministry of Culture, and The Juilliard School, Milbauer has also been awarded the biennial Laird National Leader in Arts Award in 2001 and the Wolodarsky prize from the Banff Centre in 2006. An enthusiastic performer of contemporary music, he was a semifinalist in the 2006 Orléans Concours for piano music of the 20th Century, and has premiered many works by living composers. He spent two years as an undergraduate at Harvard College before earning degrees from the Eastman School of Music, The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and, as recipient of a Fulbright grant, the Liszt Academy in Budapest.
