Biography:
Tolis Zavaliaris was born in Orestiada a small town in northen Greece. In 2001 he relocated from Greece to London where he studied the three year degree program at the London Guitar Institute. After his graduation he was invited to join the Institute as tutor and lecturer.
His Greek background helped him to develop an enormous style incorporating jazz, rock and ethnic elements in his guitar playing. In May 2004 Tolis won the "London Guitar Hero" competition which took place at the Wembley Conference Centre. Experienced session guitarist/song writer/producer, he has worked with some of the top producers in London such as Peter Greenwall (Flop-Star), Benny D
(Depeche Mode), John Robertson (Morcheeba), David Crefield (Kaiser Chiefs) to name a few.
Tolis is also an official regular contributor of the world famous âGuitar Techniques Magazineâ.
In the beginning of 2007, Tolis has released his debut solo album "Sounds of the past". It is a mixture of Eastern and Western European sounds in a modern jazz fusion approach.
BRIEF DESCRITPION
âSounds from the Pastâ is the debut album of Tolis Zavaliaris, a Greek born guitar player based in London U.K. It is a sound and rhythm mixture of traditional music from countries like Greece, Turkey and the Balkans, in a modern jazz concept. This unique composition approach offers to the listener the pleasure of a magical music journey around the tradition and culture of jazz and Eastern European countries.
Ed Holden âTotal Guitar Magazineâ
âThe first 30/40 secs just identifies the sound brilliantly and makes me feel like I'm flying around some Eastern European foothill on a magical mystery 11-string tour. If I had a favourite bit though I would have to say it was the chord choices on 'late night' - really inventive jazz style yet still organic to your sound.â
âGuitar Techniques Magazineâ
âGuitar Institute tutor Tolis Zavaliaris with his instrumental release, Sounds from the Past. With exotic scales, odd time signatures, impressive guitar chops, evocative melodies and cracking band interplay. Listening to this will endorse why he is writing GTâs World Guitar series.â
