Connie Deming's life and music have been shaped by both her exposure to music as a youth and her challenging experiences as an adult. Her music has maintained a strong sense of relevance and meaning, something which is an anomaly in today's fast food culture. Her most recent release, "Flights of Fancy," extends her art into the 21st century with songs that resonate with a deep understanding of the trials and triumphs of the human existence.
Raised in Boston, Mass., Connie was one of three children of a mother who was a classical pianist and a father who was a vocalist. This influence was undeniable and accounted for music becoming deeply embedded in her being. It became a powerful method for understanding the world around her as well as communicating her own unique view of the world to others.
As Connie moved into young adulthood her creativity and love for performing was sparked by participating in a college choir which traveled Europe, performing in 18 cities in 21 days. Following this experience, she performed in summer theaters and coffeehouses from San Francisco to Plymouth, Mass., often taking up residence in these towns to fully absorb the character of the people and partake in their rich artistic community.
Just as Connie's love of music and performing was shaped by her life experiences, her approach and musical style were influenced by many of her contemporaries. She cites Joni Mitchell, Carole King and James Taylor, as well as Rochestarians Don Potter and Dee Carstensen as artists who most deeply influenced the texture of her music.
As Connie reconnects with long time fans and new alike, she says a strong focus now is a desire to raise awareness and understanding of Autism and other disorders that hamper one's ability to communicate freely. As many know, Connie's son, David, is autistic. He is also the inspiration for her current release, "Flights of Fancy." As a nineteen year old, David now enjoys his new home at a residential school.
As for Connie's goals for her musical future, the sky's the limit!
