Details:
Emme Packer was born and raised in Farmington, Utah, a small town just outside of Salt Lake City. As a child, Emme wandered the home singing and was making instruments out of boxes and rubber bands. At 13 years old she taught herself how to play the guitar by visualization and memory. At such a young age she was setting her goal at 4 hours of guitar play and vocal strengthening a day all on her own. She played and sang in her room with no one knowing of her talents until she reached 18 years old when she decided to record an album independently. The album was released with her never having played an actual gig in her life. Most of her close family and friends heard her for the first time on this 2003 album titled, âDirty Streetâ. With the confidence boost she received with good reviews on the album, she decided to then leave college and pursue music full time.

âI had this sense of being shy my entire life, but I knew that I had the potential to change lives with what I had to sing and play. I was really scared and worried that my lyrics would reveal too much of my story, but I eventually forced myself to get past my own issues and just do it. I followed the artist Ani Difranco very closely and watched her presence on stage and her emotional singing. And I related to her playing and lyrics very much so. With such a respect for her music and what it was doing for me, I just had to push myself out of my bubble and hopefully be that for someone else.â

In 2005 Emme wrote, recorded and produced her second independent album named, âBetter Luck Next Timeâ and beg playing shows on a regular basis. So far she has been setting up her own tours and events, and living paycheck to paycheck. âI havenât ever been in it for fame or money⦠if I was I wouldnât have stayed independent for this long. My only source of money is CD sales and tips or checks brought in from touring. Itâs been hard thus far being the manager, producer, accountant, writerâ¦etc, but I just havenât come across a record label or manager that has impressed me yet. So far all they want is image or more of a âpopâ sound⦠they want my lyrics to be more obvious and blunt. What they donât understand is that I write for release and to help others. Iâm not going to change something just because the general public is more interested in a specific style. The only way I would ever sign to a record label is if I felt I was in no way compromising my values.â

Now with the new year, she has just released her brand new, much anticipated album, âJoy. The Machine.â with a whopping 14 songs beautifully written, recorded and the album printed in 6 months time. She even managed to throw in a tour amongst the chaos. This year Emme is beginning the process of now playing with a full band behind her solo name. She has worked with great artists in the past such as Marc Salmon, Atherton, Nate Shierman, Jonah Crowley and many more.

âMy huge main influences to my writing are Jeremy Enigk of Sunny Day Real Estate and Ani Difranco. Although my stuff doesnât sound much like either one of them, they have really inspired me and brought me here today. I even have mentioned both artists up into this point in a couple of my songs in an almost secretive way. Most of my songs have this secretive feeling to them when in all honesty I'm a pretty open person. I like the poetic and mysterious side of writing.â She laughs and says, âMany fans of my music tell that they have no idea what I am talking about in my songs but that they somehow feel this huge connection and closeness with what Iâm saying.â

When asked about her ideas and inspiration for writing, Emme says, âAll my prominent life experiences from the day I was born to now are written about. Music is my only way to get my emotions out and to feel that Iâve grown in some way. Iâve personally witnessed many deaths; have had great love and great loss of family and friends. I once lived in Ecuador for volunteer work with orphans and was very impacted by the culture and the lives of those little children. I also had a very lost and lonely childhood, and had to figure out a life for myself very young. We all have our struggles and our stories, this is all what my music is about. If it can impact even one person in a positive way, then I feel it was worth all the embarrassing admissionsâ

Emme has created a considerable amount of merchandise for her fans with the three albums released, three t-shirt designs, posters, DVDs, even an Emme Packer signature ipod cover at only 22 years of age.
