Details:
OfficialWebsite Bio:
Jamison is a premier party dance-band that serves up introspective lyrics through searing vocal melodies and harmonies, with a mix of energetic RockânâRoll, R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, and Jazz. The band was founded in and around the thriving metropolitan Detroit music scene in the summer of 2004. Since then, Jamison has performed at many popular Detroit area music venues in their quest to bring a new Motown sound into the world of modern music, including: Fifth Avenue-Detroit, Fishboneâs Greektown & St. Clair Shores, The Buzz Bar, Smallâs, Lager House, TCâs Speakeasy, Jacobyâs-313jac, Ann Arbor Art Fair, and The Detroit Festival of the Arts.

The bandâs musical influences become evident in their original music and overall sound, with inspirations ranging from the classic grooves of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, to the psychedelic sounds of Santana and Jimi Hendrix, the enlightened spirit of The Roots and Bob Marley, and the modern blues-rock sounds of John Mayer and the North Mississippi All-Stars. In addition to the bandâs original catalog, and a debut album due out in the summer of 2007, Jamison always plays modern hits and classic music that you grew up to.

A Jamison performance is more than just an electrifying musical experience. When the band takes to the stage a unifying musical whirlwind draws in every casual bystander creating a mass of charged crowd participation. Jamison plays every show as if it were their last, generating an unrelenting urge in the audience to shake it on the dance floor.

Metro Detroit Band Creates Perfect Mixture of Funk, Rock and Soul
Marquis Taylor, Michigan Frontpage - June 23, 2006.

Ever wonder what it would sound like if the likes of Marvin Gaye, Prince, Carlos
Santana and Sly and the Family Stone joined forces to form a musical super group? Well,
look no further than Jamison; a group determined to carve their own niche in the world of
music with a unique and delicious blend of funk, rock and an extra helping of soul. Add
that to a liberated style and approach and you'll encounter a group destined for greatness.
Formed in 2004, Jamison made a name of themselves performing at local venues
throughout the state of Michigan. Joined together by their genuine love of music, the
group came together after members responded to ads placed in the Metro Times.
The band whose six members are spread throughout Detroit, Ann Arbor and
Ypsilanti was given their unique name by guitarist Rick "Crowe" Coughlin, who is also
one of the groupâs original members. "Basically what Jamison means is to be
emancipated, become free," lead vocalist Jacob Fed Mangum explained. The Jamison
experience is about experiencing different things, having purpose, regaining your
manhood, all while receiving freedom.
Although the group was originally sought out to be a blues band, their collective
musical influences that range from Stevie Wonder to A Tribe Called Quest helped add
soulful elements to their already eclectic sound. "Basically what we want to do is bring
soul and passion to our music so that people can take it over to the next generation,"
Mangum said. Judging by a recent performance at the Detroit Festival of the Arts,
Jamison may have very well set the blueprint for other artists to follow with an
astonishing set that included Stevie Wonder covers Superstitious and I Wish as well as
original material Let it Flow and Paradise.
While some may consider them a cover band, Jamison wants assure people they
are an original band that plays its share of covers. "What we want is for people to hear
our influences, artists that inspired us, in addition to the Jamison sound," Mangum said.
With an album scheduled for a spring 2007 release, fans can expect to hear more of the
Jamison sound, a sound desperately needed in music's depressing times. If their music is
an indication of what fans can expect, chances are, we're in for a feast.
