-ALBUM HISTORY-

The first spark for Superman Is Dead came in the spring of 2005 during a rehearsal in front of my daughter Minya, when I improvised what was to become the song Another Sky. After several years of doubts, soul searching and real life, Another Sky finally gave me the desire to make another albumâ¦

With over thirty new songs since The Mandala Sessions, the task of getting down to selecting, arranging and recording them was terrifying. Lady Luck, however, stumbled my way a couple years later in the form of a pizza at my egyptian friend Redaâs restaurant in my new hometown, Bordeaux. He introduced me to a young drummer called Joachim Bérose who, after having heard some of the demo songs, brought in Stéphane Dériau-Reine and Benoît Michalon, a production team based in Bordeaux. After some very effective advice, Benoît helped me select the tracks (you can thank him for Camilleâ¦) then handed me over to his partner. Stéphane is a producer/arranger/ keyboard player⦠from another planet. He has played with the likes of Simple Minds, Alexander OâNeill, and Light of The World.

In the span of 2 weeks in early June 2007, the creative madness set in and the songs came to life under his magical fingers. I brought some of my crew down to the studio- miss Constance for a duo on Falling Snow and Mr. Nico Baudino for his magical sax⦠We completely re-arranged Christmas Song, an old tune I had co-written with Marc Collin (from Nouvelles Vagues fame)⦠The craziest part was recording my boys Fly and Jon; Fly and I ended up flying out to Shanghai to record Flyâs vocals and Jonâs guitars because Jon couldnât leave his work (even though heâs the boss⦠Go figureâ¦) After adding a final recording session in Ramatuelle to get Williamâs lead vocal on Feel Love, the album was put into the hands of another madman, Albert âSpeedyâ Gruber, for the mix. Speedy is a 25 year old Austrian engineer who works with Stéphane; his magical ears made sense of an average of 100 tracks per song⦠Between live gigs, another month of mixing madness, and putting the graphics together with miss Céline (who also does my websites), the summer slipped by until, finally, in sept 2007, Superman Is Dead was bornâ¦


-LAWRENCE COLLINS BIO-

Son of the late American author Larry Collins and his Egyptian wife Nadia, Lawrence Collins grew up in France, England, India and the United States. This early taste in international cultures was to have a lasting effect on his music. He speaks English, French, German, Spanish, and a dozen âsurvivalâ phrases in Arabic and Chinese⦠He now lives with his family in Bordeaux (thatâs in Franceâ¦).
Back in 2003, when asked by a journalist during a festival to describe his musical style, Lawrence and his partner Mr.Fly came up with the acronym âTrip-Rock" to describe their unique combination of Trip-Hop, World, Acoustic Rock and Jazz. He plays guitar, bass, harmonica⦠and the computer.

After graduating from Colby College in 1989 (phi beta capa & cum laude), Lawrence travelled around the world for a year before attending the Musicianâs Institute (GIT) in Los Angeles. He stayed in L.A. for 7 years where he produced 4 albums, wrote music for various films and commercials, and worked in music video production with artists such as Michael Jackson, REM, and Tears for Fears. He performed over 1100 shows on both the East and West coasts of the United States as well as France, Australia, Egypt, India, and Nepal. Songs from his various albums and live performances have been played on various TV and radio stations around the world, including Europe 1 & 2, Canal+ (NPA) in France and 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles.

Since moving to France in 1997, Lawrence recorded "The Mandala Sessions" (2000) and "EP" (2001) with his french musical twin Marc âFlyâ Perimony. They have played over 250 concerts in Paris, the south of France, the French West Indies, and China.
In 2003, he wrote the soundtrack for the independent french film âComme Si De Rien Etaitâ, directed by Pierre-Olivier Mornas. The film went on to win over 20 awards in various festivals, including The Publicâs choice at the Paris Film Festival and the best movie and the New York French film festival.
In the fall of 2007, Lawrence released his 7th album, âSuperman Is Deadâ- 11 songs that weave World, Electro, Rock and Jazz into an intimate and emotional musical tapestry framed in carefully crafted lyrics. The album was arranged by Stéphane Dériau-Reine (Simple Minds, Light of the World) and features collaborations with Constance Amiot, Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague), and William Baldé.
