Formed in 2004, LYRA is a heavy-hitting, Los Angeles-based trio whose intense, moody, and melodic twists have created a sound that is not only unique, but reflects the experience of itâs members. Having lent her talents to such acts as The Mars Volta, Veruca Salt and Pink, bassist Eva Gardner delivers rhythm and vocals that form the backbone of Lyra. Guitarist and vocalist Mike McGill, who hails from VHS or Beta, Snake vs Wizard and Inkwell Chemists, delivers a clean and heavy sound that exposes the rock and experimental influences. LYRAâs first EP entitled Protocol features founding member Alfredo Ortiz (Beastie Boys, Ozomatli and Morningwood) on drums and percussion. He provides a Latin flavor as he meticulously pounds away to form LYRAâs driving rhythm. As Alfredo had been hired to tour extensively with these busy bands since the release of Protocol, the quest arose to fill his shoes as a drummer. LYRAâs latest release, the Move EP, features Salvatore Romano. His hard-hitting style and dedication was just what the band was looking for. As the band progresses, these musicians take the experience, knowledge and creative inspiration they have gained along the way and are able to explore this passion on their own termsâto continue to have fun and make music they believe in.
