Music has has been a passion of saxophonist Pat Carroll since he was twelve years old. He began taking private lessons in sixth grade, studying under noted San Francisco
Bay area musician, Dann Zinn. Pat performed in his middle school and high school jazz bands, and participated in numerous festivals and competitions in California.

In high school Pat was selected as a member of the Monterey Jazz Festival All-Star High School Big Band, which toured Japan summer of 2004. He was also a member of the 2004 Gibson/Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble. In his junior year, Pat was awarded the Jimmy Lyon's full tuition scholarship to the Berklee College of Music at the 2004 Monterey Jazz Festival.

In 2005, Pat was commissioned to write and perform original music as a member of the SFJAZZ Young Composers Project. Throughout the 2005-2006 academic year, the group convened in San Francisco for rehearsals, workshops, and master classes with Ravi Coltrane, Miguel Zenon, Vijay Iyer, and Maria Schneider. The music debuted at Yoshi's Jazz Club in Oakland, CA in August 2006. It was also broadcast on San Francisco's jazz station KCSM.

Throughout his brief career, Pat has been inspired and coached by such eminent artists as Dave Douglas, Christian McBride, Marcus Strickland, Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin, Clarence Penn, and Greg Osby.
