Resistant Me
A little girl living in sunny San Jose, California listened to her little boom box everyday. She sang along with all the 80âs tunes she heard. She didnât discriminate. Her favorites were Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard and later New Kids on the Block, Paula Abdul and Vanilla Ice. Her uncle introduced her to Mtv (in the 80âs they actually showed music videos). Two things spawned from watching Mtv. The little girl wanted to dance and she wanted an electric guitar.
Aside from elementary school talent shows the inspiration to dance fizzled out but the want for a guitar didnât. Her mom started her on violin in the 4th grade, which she played for two years. When the little girl grew into a teenager she bought her 1st electric guitar, all the while writing stories and poems. And of course still singing.
The little girl is Cynthia Acevedo. She wrote her first real song at the age of 17. After high school she participated in open mic nights at local coffee shops. It wasnât enough for her so she decided to put a band together. By the age of 20 she had her first band playing shows. Through the years there were many different musicians she played with, a few different band names, many new songs she sang but Cynthia was always the heart and soul of each group.
In 2003 Cynthiaâs new found Dj friend, Miguel Guidos, introduced her to his long time drummer/producer friend Doug Carlson. Cynthia and Miguel went to Dougâs studio, Cynthia played Doug a few of her songs and in short, now you have the Resistant Me album: Bad Girl Rehab.
The Bad Girl Rehab album is Cynthiaâs first full-length cd release. Resistant Me is her band. The songs are about her life experiences. The release is about finishing what you start.
Resistant Me plays live shows in the California bay area. They have received radio airplay on Channel 104.9, KSCU 103.3 and KFOX 98.5. They have also been featured in the music section of such local magazines as Metro and Zero.
