Slabtown Biography
Slabtown started in 2004 when four friends realized they all played instruments and had similar tastes in musical styles. We began playing together just for something to pass the time and through encouragement of friends and family, cultivated our pastime into a profession. We began with a simple PA system, a drumset, two guitars and a bass guitar. Taking this equipment to fraternity and family parties, our dream of playing for a living was realized.
Now, three years later, we have expanded our sound system and experience playing at bars, firemanâs carnivals, and opening up for such acts as The Joe Patrick Group and national stars, The Povertyneck Hillbillies.
The bars that we perform at have taken us across the state from State College to just North of Harrisburg to Huntingdon county and as far West as Indiana, PA. Our first firemanâs carnival was performing for the Centre Hall Volunteer Fire Company, just outside of State college in 2007, followed by The Indiana County Firemanâs Carnival, held in Commodore, PA. 2007 also saw us opening up for Regional acts such as The Joe Patrick Group and Brian Miller and Tanoma Road. This year we also opened up for over 2000 fans at Altoonaâs Downtown Alive at Five, followed by the National act, The Povertyneck Hillibillies. We also participated in the Going through Hell tour of western PA with DJ Jamminâ Jim and DJ Steve-O, a tour that benefitted local people who had recently âgone through hell.â
In three years, Slabtown has self-produced two original CDâs, Pennsylvania and Heroes and Heartaches, both of which have had substantial airplay on State Collegeâs radio station, 105.9 JOE fm.
By blending classic rock, contemporary rock, blues, and country styles, Slabtown has converted some non-country fans into Slabtown fans. Our bar shows are compiled of three âfour hours of original material from our two CDâs and covers from Bob Seger, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and even some Tom Petty.
