It was happy hour in Flagstaff Arizona , and John walked into the now closed Alley for some cheap PBR's. He was barefoot and dirty from living out in the woods for the last couple of months. He surveyed the clientele of about a half dozen. Like John, they were all songwriters and, like John, they were all unemployed and living in the woods somewhere. John raised his pint.

From town to town, dead end job to dead end job, woman to woman, John Whipple's music is a tour of the less glamorous, but often more typical, side of the American Dream. He is the guy that doesn't get the house or the family or the SUV. Instead, he is either un or underemployed, sleeps in a van, and travels in rusty and venerable vehicles, and dresses in thrift store ensembles and bare feet.

His music resembles his lifestyle. It is back to the basics roots music. Some Delta blues slide chops, some country guitar, some banjo, harmonica and accordion. He tends to blur the lines that separate the micro genres of blues, country, and folk. He claims he likes to take his songs out for a couple drinks and let them take find their own way home. His songs are his little victories over sometimes crappy situations. He parodies himself and the life of the blue collar everyman trying to get by and somehow have a good time.

Whipple has been writing and performing his music for decades but only recently has been able to release any of his recordings. The Last Cold One is finally being printed after collecting dust for over a year. Both the Last Cold One and Songs For No One are available on iTunes. Whipple is currently performing both as a solo act and as a one man band in Portland Oregon and is planning a tour in support of The Last Cold One later this year.
