Details:
Dancing French Liberals of '48 was the band that the surviving members of THE GITS formed after Mia was killed. It was while intensely grieving Mia that they decided to keep playing music together. The whole project would be a homage to their dear friend and band mate. They reasoned that Mia definitely would have wanted it that way.

But what could they possibly do to follow up a band like THE GITS? They tried to find a new singer, auditioned well over a dozen men and women for the role. Nobody was right. And how could anybody fill Mia's boots? Fact is, nobody ever could.

Joe Spleen eventually took it upon himself to to write all the songs and sing them. They enlisted the help of their old friend and Gits soundman Julian Gibson to play rhythm guitar and locked themselves into their freezing rehearsal studio for six months. Enter... The Dancing French Liberals of '48.

The songs were loud and angry. More hardcore than the THE GITS and with good reason. D.F.L.'48 put out a single in 1995 "Spags b/w Scream Clown Scream" on the trustworthy, Broken Rekids label in San Francisco. They followed the 7 inch with a 10 inch picture disc containing 5 songs.

A year or so later they released a full length cd and lp entitled, POWERLINE. It's a great album and the rapid evolution and development of D.F.L.'48 as a band is fully evident in the music. It was recorded and produced by Thee Slayer Hippy, drummer of Poison Idea, a Portland based hardcore band that Joe Spleen would later join as lead guitarist.
