The sound of heartbreak, ambient guitars and dream pop, reminiscent of Cocteau Twins and Slowdive 6 MP3 Songs ROCK: Shoegaze, ROCK: Slowcore Show all album songs: Voss EP Songs Details: ABOUT THE MEMBERS Daniel Land was born in rural Devon (in the Southwest of England) in 1980 and relocated to Manchester in his early twenties. He released two albums of ambient piano material (The Pillowbook of Fantasy and Little Luxor) before leaving high school. Graeme Meikle was born in the Scottish borders and was a prominent member of the Scottish folk music scene before moving to Manchester and joining The Modern Painters in 2002. Oisin Scarlett joined the band in 2004, and hails from Dublin, Ireland. He counts amongst his influences the guitar work of Johnny Marr (from The Smiths) and the atmospheric work of This Mortal Coil. ABOUT THE MUSIC Daniel Land & The Modern Painters really make two kinds of music. At least half of their songs fall within classic 'shoegazer' territory, featuring gauzy textures and showing the influence of artists like Cocteau Twins and Slowdive. However others of their songs are stripped back and transparent, showing the influence of back-to-basics artists like Mojave 3 and Cowboy Junkies. Both styles sit comfortably next to each other on record, sharing a very special acoustic space made up of reverb-heavy guitars, shimmering textural details, and overriding it all, the sighing cross-harmonies of Daniel Land. ABOUT THE BAND The band record all of their material in Daniel Land's studio The Cloisters, overlooking a churchyard in Manchester, England, and they have decided to pursue the 'classic' alternative approach to their career by setting up their own label and booking their own tours. The band feel that they don't need a Coldplay-sized audience to communicate their ideas; "The Mojave 3, Cowboy Junkies kind of fame is where it's at for us. As long as we can touch a few hearts, we're happy," says Daniel. in partnership with CDbaby User tags: Votes: Reviews: Review it! (This product has no reviews yet) |
