Details:
Duncan accepts job offer in Seattle. Begins playing open mics (bass and vocals), meets Darby at Murphy's in Wallingford. Darby says, "I usually play drums, and I can really get behind what you're doing. But right now I'm going to play some Leo Kottke on this here banjo."
Duncan takes ride in cab to Shoreline to practice with Darby. Unbeknownst to Duncan, the cab driver is a closet, sax-playing fiend. Said fiend queries Duncan as to his musical motives, drops him off and vanishes into the late afternoon heat. Two weeks later, cabbie's wife shows up at The Conor Byrne and hands Duncan cabbie's phone number, explaining that cabbie is her husband and that she needs to get him out the house. Cabbie's name = Seth M. Alexander. Band now = trio, starts gigging.
Trio undertakes recording project at home, and at Triad studios, with the help of Josef "Slowboat" Slobodzian, a Ukrainian mercenary killing time in this country smoking all of our cigarettes. Trio adds more instruments than it can play live. Project sounds good mastered; needs more musicians.
Seth M. Alexander recruits AN ENTIRE BAND, ALL AT ONCE from the University of Washington. Recruited band is given to playing JAZZ. They handle our trio's tunes with ease, prompting Duncan to suggest rerecording entire project. Seth M. Alexander and Darby's eyes pop out of their respective heads: that's a lot of work to redo.
Rerecorded project finally finished after many delays, misprints and misadventures (which might, at a different time, interest Ralph Nader.) Band, now 8 (eight) members, is serving it up here, on CD Baby, for you to enjoy. Please listen.
