Born Ugochuku Okereke, Ugo also known as Onye came into the world singing. Showing talent early, she was placed in gifted musicianâs programs like Boyâs Harbor and the Diller-Quaile School of Music. Studying Opera, Jazz, Gospel, and Musical Theater, she also mastered Pop and R&B by listening to the radio and singing all the latest hits.

She attended F.H. LaGuardia High School nicknamed the âFame Schoolâ with notables like Jennifer Aniston and Omar Epps. During high school, she was placed in the special classes for the virtuous student. She sang as a soloist and as a choral member at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Yankee Stadium, and the Apollo Theatre. She also was a part of the Daily News All-City High School Music Program.
Attending Wesleyan University her skills were even more refined. She served as a Directorâs Assistant and soloist for the Wesleyan Choir. She also sang with the Ebony Singer. The Ebony singerâs traveled around the North East singing at different Churches and events. She graduated winning awards in music and academic excellence.

Ugo Onye has been performing at the Ashford and Simpsonâs Sugar Bar, The Village Underground, Soul Café, Café Wa, Club Speed, Lincoln Center and countless other venues to thunderous accolades. She has sung at weddings and in several studios in Europe. She has worked on projects with stars as well as up and coming artist. One of the artist collaborations involved the production and engineering skills of DJ KMT and DJ Red Alert. Another was produced by the Don G. who plays the drums for the Fugeeâs. She worked with Monday, a European number one hit making star, who was produced by Key Board Money Mike founder of the legendary KRS One and Boogie Down Productions. She was also offered contracts to write for Lauryn Hill for whom she now writes.

She has experience acting and modeling. She has been in a Guy and Big Daddy Kane videos. She is a soloist and former Vice President of her beloved Grace United Methodist Church choir. She has been in films. Her poetry has named her the Poetry for the International Library of Poetryâs Best Poems and Poets of 2002 and Editorâs Choice Award 2006. She has worked as a private vocal coach for artist on Full Blaze Records that were to be contracted by major label J Records. Onye has written hundreds of hot songs with DJ Clueâs father Ernesto Shaw Sr. and is currently working on her latest CD.
