David Massey's songs weave together traditional, country, rock and folk elements in support of rich stories that will remind listeners of John Prine, James McMurtry, Lucinda Williams, Todd Snider and Patty Griffin.
13 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, FOLK: Modern Folk
Details:
"David Massey manages, with his storytelling, to blow away celebrities such as John Prine, James McMurtry, Todd Snider and others that have preceded him . . . a strong candidate to end up at the top of my yearly list . . . Great album!"
- Rootstime (Belgium)
"You like banjo pickin' in the background, a singer with a likeably gentle voice, songs that tell stories and keep you interested until the last bar? Welcome to David Massey territory. Massey has been compared to the likes of Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Steve Forbert and Todd Snider, but he really has a strong enough identity to stand up for himself . . . In many ways, Massey reminds me of a countrified Al Stewart - his voice has that high, gossamer quality that has been Stewart's trademark for years. Added to that, his obvious storytelling ability, and you have a great combination." - Comes With A Smile
". . . no other album has probably possessed a more apt title than this one. Music to soundtrack those rapidly approaching winter nights." - Americana UK
David Massey writes and sings music in the tradition of John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Steve Forbert, Todd Snider, James McMurtry and Steve Earle. His debut CD, "Blissful State of Blue," was released in June 2004. The CD features 13 original tunes and features a who's who of Washington D.C. area musicians: Dudley Connell and Mike Auldridge (of present and past versions of The Seldom Scene), Robbie Magruder (drummer for Mary-Chapin Carpenter for many years), highly acclaimed banjo player Stephen Wade, multi-instrumentalist Zan McLeod (sideman for Paul Winter, Jim Lauderdale, David Wilcox, Mike Cross and many others), internationally renowned accordion player Bill McComiskey, Bill Kirchen and Too Much Fun drummer Jack O'Dell, Jim Robeson (The Cathy Ponton King band), and Bill Starks (The Cathy Ponton King Band, Ruthie and the Wranglers), bluegrass singer Sally Love, and Emily and Susan Hsu of the indie pop/jam band Exit Clov.
David is donating 50 of the proceeds of CD sales to two very worthy causes: 25 to The National Council for the Traditional Arts (www.ncta.net) and 25 to Stars for Stripes (www.starsforstripes.com).
