Dyckns Has Seen It All Twice
Bill Dyckns has been singing & writing since 1964. DYCKNS wrote a highly acclaimed song of the events of November 22nd, 1963 he titled "Man In Texas" as a high schooler. He was a visible, vibrant supporter on the civil rights movement, performing, along with his own works, the "folk/rock" & gospel songs of the day throughout the local area. After graduation, before college, DYCKNS arrived in New York City's Greenwich Village where he made an effort for larger recognition playing the "Bitter End" & local "basket" clubs in the Bleecker Street and 4th Street area's. Attaining great experience DYCKNS headed for college. He formed "The Wakefields" & played the midwest. Leaving college early DYCKNS headed back to New York City, enlisting in the army soon after. Being drafted was not on his agenda. Though DYCKNS did serve 1 year in Viet Nam as a combat photographer & was decorated for his service with the ACM, on his return to the States, as he said, it was a world changed. DYCKNS purchased a new guitar in 1980 but could never grasp the gift he had buried deep within after his return from the war. His first "DEMO" CD "STILL AROUND" features "THE BALLAD OF SUSETTE KELO" which has gained praise. Attorney's for the case are promoting the CD, giving a copy to reporters, showing the populist issue the KELO case is. DYCKNS remains a songwriter of the injustices' to society but also writes songs with amazing wordsmithing & catchy melodies. DYCKNS was stunned by the inspiration suddenly relit in him but is enjoying every second of the magic.....AND THEN, AGAIN,......DYCKNS' fortune's hit upon extremely hard times and when he emerged found that something had changed or, to be more precise, something more opened within him perception-wise and musically
Things Have Changed
Appears Dyckns' love of jazz is beginning to encompass more of his time as his recent album "Abandoned Blues" indicates. And what an album it is! All songs on the album were written during a dark period in Dyckns life recently. A very dark period to say the least. The story goes Dyckns suffered at the hands of 2 employers who cared little for Dyckns quality work and made life unbearable to the point Dyckns resigned. Alas...Dyckns found it easy enough to get interviews for new jobs via his credentials but once inside that room the truth came out. Yes indeed...Dyckns age was revealed and he was never to hear from them again. Put into a serious quandry of no income Dyckns was forced to file bankruptcy. This , in turn resulted in his landlord, where Dyckns owned a home on rented land, requesting Dyckns move out. The reason given was Dyckns' dog, Velvet but the park has a reputation as being tough to get in and Dyckns knows for certain it was due to his bankruptcy. He doesn't give details but Dyckns says "certain topics" arose and lawyers were mentioned. This, in turn led to Dyckns having to sell his home. After signing the deal Dyckns suffered a severe heart attack laying him up in hospital for a week. He ran out of meds and food and a fan in florida who read of this sent Dyckns enough cash to carry him through because after moving from his home Dyckns was not paid until 2 months later! There's more, believe it or not. But it's been a nasty year for Bill. During all this, Dyckns somehow came up with the music for this album "Abandoned Blues". He has another on the way which Dyckns says he tries to put into the music what occurred. I think "Abandoned Blues" does that fine myself! So here we are...A new side of Bill Dyckns and a fantastic listen for all! Enjoy "Abandoned Blues"!
