The Crucervix Story

Crucervix is an independent musical project which was founded by me, Peter Syslo. It started off as an idea for a whole band, and I had initially worked with a few musicians, but it really did not work out that way. Metal music is a tough genre, at times, and to have people who are enthusiastic about playing that style of music is pretty rare, Iâve found. Coupled with that fact is that I wanted to draw influences from other areas, in an âexperimentalâ fashion, and I wanted to create music that sounded a little different â sort of like metal with a âtwistâ. So, like-minded musicians were really difficult to find, but that did not stop me.
I made the decision to go ahead and record an album, alone. I thought of bands/musicians like Bathory, Xasthur, and Ingurgitate â I was impressed by their dedication and âone-man operationsâ and I was inspired to go at it by myself. I had all of the music already written for âMy Dark Angelâ and I just needed to focus on the recording. Thus, I forged ahead, working with affordable recording equipment and using the instruments that I had on hand. About 8 months later, I had a complete album and I was free to focus on the business end of it, including everything from copyrights to CD production. Finally, after a lot of hard work I released âMy Dark Angelâ on October 31st 2007 and currently, I am recording my second album, which should be completed in the spring of 2008.
Although recording âMy Dark Angelâ was a very long and difficult task, both the experience and the joy of creating music were very rewarding. The music on âMy Dark Angelâ contains a lot of death and black metal elements, along with some classical components â I wanted to fuse together all of the things that I like about music, in general. The guitar, bass, keyboard, vocals, and drums really draw a lot of the sound from a metal standpoint, but all of those parts seem to come together with a classical sense of melody, harmony, tonality, and voice leading. Lyrically, a lot of the songs are about dishonesty and hypocrisy (within love, religion, family, and friendship) and a lot of the subject matter came from my own experiences, or the real-life experiences of others.
The second Crucervix album is going to focus my style and my sound a little bit further, but it will be in the same vein, musically. Iâm very excited about the recording process because I am doing something that I am very passionate about; Iâm pursuing my dreams and my nightmares⦠and it feels great.
