The Miles, which started out as a demo, was Paul Greene's debut release in 2001. It was this album that served as the launching pad for his career receiving incredible reviews in his native Australia. Paul initially only pressed 1000 copies which were snapped up within a few months. Whirl Records was born. There are several Australian luminaries who grace this album (seemingly by co-incidence or accident): Paul Searls (Skunkhour) contributes some breathtakingly beautiful synth and keys, as does Marcus Webb. Midnight Oil's Rob Hirst plays a very understated percussion on several tracks with Lee Moloney(diesel, Alex Lloyd, Ghostwriters) on drums.

The songwriting is beautifully humble - "intelligent lyrics propelled by infectious melodies" wrote Michael Smith from Drum media. From 'Shine Like Gold', as clasic a love song as you are ever likely to find (written for his wife), Greene bumps into the fun pop of 'Let It Flow', the melancholic quasi-sea shanty of 'The Wake', and even a very Rory McLeod inspired improv titled 'Stupid Mans Eyes'.
