Perhaps best known as pianist for Lyle Lovett and Jane Siberry, Tim Rayâs wide-ranging skills as a soloist and accompanist have afforded him the opportunity to perform with legendary performers from all walks of music. Appearing on over 60 recordings to date, Tim has performed in concert with an extensive list of pop music icons, notably Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Lou Reed, Rickie Lee Jones, Willie Nelson, kd lang and Soul Asylum. He regularly performs with leading figures in the jazz world, among them Gary Burton, Scott Hamilton, Eddie Daniels, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lewis Nash and Rufus Reid, and his classical credits include solo performances and concerts with Gunther Schuller, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Boston Classical Orchestra. Timâs busy schedule has included frequent tours tall over the planet, and has included performances at Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Kennedy Center and the 1992 Presidential Inauguration. Tim has also performed repeatedly on âThe Tonight Showâ (Johnny Carson, Jay Leno), âLate Night with David Letterman,â âThe Conan OâBrien Show,â âAustin City Limitsâ and various other national TV and radio broadcasts.
This recording is a collection of solo piano compositions and improvisations by Tim, along with his version of Lyle Lovett's "I've Been to Memphis" and Jane Siberry's "The Valley". You can find liner notes for these pieces on Tim's website - go to AgitatedCatMusic.com/recordings/onmyown.html.
"Tim Ray, a masterful pianist, always anticipates the next great thing to play." â Tucson Weekly, September 1998.
â[Jane Siberry] first noticed Tim Ray - whose strong genius at the keyboard centers the whole record [Maria, 1995 Warner Bros.]- playing with Lyle Lovett and later with the jazz band Orange Then Blue. âI thought these were the two best pianists Iâd ever seen,â she says, âuntil I realized they were the same man.ââ â Musician Magazine, December 1995.
"...and that Tim Ray at the piano - he slays me every single night!" â Bonnie Raitt, on-mike from her 2002 summer tour with Tim.
