If defying stereotypes were a crime, Lauren Brombert would have a lengthy rap sheet. Neither completely American nor completely European, she was raised on two continents. She has a long and prestigious academic background but sheâs an artist. She has degrees in Ancient Greek and Russian Studies from Haverford College and Yale University and years of teaching at the university level under her belt but she is a guitar-playing singer who fronts a band and, according to Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago-Sun Times âhas a knack for crafting alluring melodies.â She didnât start the craft until she was 30, but her first four-song demo got local airplay and lured some of Chicagoâs most renowned musicians into her band.
