Steady P
(a.k.a. - Greg Pace)
Steady P began his musical career at a very early age, learning to play tunes by ear on his aunt's piano and singing with the church choir in his hometown of Gary, Indiana.
At 12, he began formal musical training as a saxophonist in the school marching band and jazz stage band. By age 17, he had gained numerous awards and was the state's leading high school soloist. During Steady's high school years, he also began singing, playing the sax and bass guitar with "Soul Express"; a popular semi-professional band that toured the mid-west. The group gigged routinely and frequently opened for professional acts that came to Gary and Chicago. It was during this period when Steady began to write original songs.
In 1977, Steady passed on an opportunity to go to the Juliard School of Music and accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Although the school offered no curriculum for music, Steady remained active in music through various extra-curricular groups and clubs. During the four years at the Academy, he performed and toured with the men's glee club and the Protestant choir. Steady also sang, played bass and keyboards with the Academy's top-40 stage band, "Variations". Amongst all this activity, Steady additionally became a first-team All-America Epee' fencer, placing 3rd in the nation. He even managed to get some school work completed while there!
Upon graduation in 1981, Steady was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. While this left little time for performing, circumstances sparked interest in a new area of music - home recording and music production. Steady established a modest home studio and began to hone his skills as a song writer and music producer. Occasionally performing solo at various activities and functions, much of Steady's available time was directed towards home recording and making tracks for other performers.
In 1993, Steady left the Marine Corps and established Black Hat Tunes, a music publishing/production company. Since that time, he has earned a Master's of Business Administration degree from Old Dominion University and has worked to continuously grow his business and improve upon the character and quality of music emanating from his soul and studios. He has worked with several local artists writing, recording, producing, and publishing music for them. His music has had commercial success in the local radio, club, and sales markets. Still, Steady and Black Hat Tunes continue to strive for national/international success and recognition as a maker of "hits".
