Details:
Douglas Graves is currently living in the Los Angeles area. Growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, Douglas took piano lesson starting at the age of five. Then in elementary school, he took up the cello as part of the string program. Playing cello through out high school and college gave him exposure to music that he wasnât listening to at home.

The youngest of four children, music was constantly around the house. He was drawn to bands that his sister and brother were playing like, Elton John, Yes and Pink Floyd. Any music that had a synthesizer in it sparked Douglasâ ear. Later on in high school, he was listening to artists like Depeche Mode, Yaz, New Order, U2 and The Cure. In college he was exposed to artists like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Brian Eno and Peter Gabriel.

Douglas had begun composing music on the piano in high school. After a trip to London while attending Graceland College, he decided to pursue composition. He became interested in scoring for theatrical productions and doing sound design. The college had received a grant for a small electronic music studio, which Douglas helped set up. He used the equipment to compose music for plays and even a commercial for college while at Graceland.

Douglas received his Masters of Music Composition from Bowling Green State University. The New Music Festival at BGSU exposed Douglas to contemporary composers working in many different mediums. However, he gravitated more to the electronic area of composition. Douglas also worked in the recording services of BGSU, where he recorded concerts, studio sessions and worked on early digital editing software. This work allowed him to help out with live performances at BGSU. Douglas also took time to approach the theatre department at BGSU and ended up scoring music for their production of âA Midsummer Nightâs Dream.â

After completing the program at BGSU, Douglas returned to Kansas City, MO to seek work in a recording studio or theatre. He landed at job mixing sound at one of the many local theatres and finding a video director to do some small scoring work. Looking for a new challenge, he applied for the sound design program at Yale School of Drama and was accepted. While at Yale, he composed music for several student productions. He also became involved with the Adirondack Theatre Festival during the summer time. Douglas did several sound designs and composed music for productions during his time with ATF.

Douglas moved to New York City in the Fall of 1997 and began working in sound shops that rented to Broadway shows. His contacts in the places lead him to mixing shows Off-Broadway and for other events around the city. He received his union card and in 2000 went out on his first tour as an assistant audio engineer. Douglas continued working on different shows until landing his first gig as a Production Sound Engineer for a Broadway show in 2003. Using that as a springboard, Douglas has toured around the country with shows and settled in Los Angeles doing theatre there. He was able to resurrect his old home studio and finalize the mix and textures for âMuch Time Has Passed.â
