Writing for over twenty-three years, Doris Reed is a Los Angeles based poet. Her poetry has appeared in Essence, Science of Mind, Heritage, and Dysonna magazines as well as the Los Angeles Sentinel newspaper, numerous books, and anthologies. In addition to poetry, she also writes short stories, articles, and editorials. Her editorials appear in the Los Angeles Times and Daily newspapers.

Ms. Reed performs readings throughout the Southern California area inclusive of the Midnight Special, Borders, and Barnes and
Noble bookstores, Beyond Baroque in
Venice, Leap of Faith Café in Laguna Beach, Eso Won Books in Los Angeles, the Equator Café in Pasadena, the Atlas Bar and Grill, and Tangier in Los Angeles. She has performed poetry readings in Palm Springs, San Diego, Philadelphia, D.C., New York, and St. Croix. Doris has appeared on television, stage, and had a body of her work performed in the theatrical production, Patchwork. She also performs at private parties, weddings, and other special events.

Ms. Reed has had a poem musically scored by the late-great jazz musician Dr. Aaron Bell of New York, with whom she performed, and penned the commemorative poem for KCET's 2003 Black History Month Celebration. In 2003, Doris released an album of her poetry set to music entitled "Reflections."

"Tending My Garden," released in 2004, is Ms. Reed's second published book of poetry and is truly a labor of love. Believing poetry the looking glass into the soul, Doris feels that as long as it touches someone, somewhere, somehow, the sun will come up tomorrow.
