The Kenny White Project - Yonder Comes The Blues
The long awaited Album from Master Bluesman Kenny White. Superbly relaxed vocals ,hot guitar, slide, mandolin and harmonica.

KENNY WHITE was born in Melbourne in 1944. He grew up listening to
jazz and the popular music of the time. Playing his first instrument, the tea chest bass, he would
jam to the jazz on the ABC. He was drawn to and loved folk music, jazz and
blues.
Kenny was introduced to the blues recordings by Tony Standish, who had
met many of the old bluesmen in London where he had been editor and
writer for the English Jazz Journal magazine. He imported, sold and fed a
steady stream of music for Kenny and others to hear. Kenny was mentored
and taught the essentials and intricacies of Afro American folk music
(blues, gospel and jazz) by Frank Traynor and âAustraliaâs father of jazzâ Ade
Monsbourgh, who both looked on him as a son.
While playing at Traynorâs Jazz and Folk Club, he met his future best friend
and musical âsoul mateâ Graeme Squance. Together they discovered and
played (country blues) through to modern Chicago blues; music that was
rarely heard in Australia in the 1960âs and Kenny developed a great compassion for Afro American people and
a love for the haunting sound of the Blues,
Together and separately, they defined Blues in Australia at folk clubs and on national and state festivals as well
as performing on major concerts. Kenny also gave extensive Blues workshops on the festivals.
The Kenny White â Graeme Squance duo had long planned to move to London to further their careers, but
Graeme was tragically killed in 1970. Kenny decided to stay in Australia, get married and devote his time to
teaching whilst still performing occasionally.
Kenny has always been and continues to be a respected reference for his intensive knowledge of ethnomusicology
â particularly Afro-American which he has incorporated into his teaching music and mentoring of
hundreds of students over the last thirty years. His unique style of playing and singing, whether a hard driving
blues with complicated implied percussion, or a lyrical melodic number with haunting creative counter melody
is heard on this latest recording and will be warmly remembered by old fans and will create many new ones.

The Kenny White Project - Yonder Comes the Blues

This is a classic blues album from a well known exponent who has had many years involvement in the music scene.
Kenny has been around the Australian Blues scene since the beginning.

With Kennyâs heritage of being taught by Frank Traynor and Ade Monsborough and partnering Graham Squance you would expect this CD to be one out of the boxâ¦â¦ and it is!

The CD is made up of Kennyâs favorites, played his way.

There are sixteen tracks on the CD and all of them are well worth a listen.

Kenny has developed a wonderful guitar sound over the years and his ability is displayed to its full extent on the CD.

Kennyâs unique Australian voice comes through on all tracks.

There wasnât one track I didnât like and the selection is as varied as you would expect from an artist with such a long involvement in the blues.

In the words of Dutch Tilders, âI have known Kenny White for four decades and more.â

âKennyâs album consists of well thought out instrumentation and delightful harmonies on the gospel songs.

âKennyâs vocals are superbly relaxed.

âI thoroughly enjoyed the album.â

I couldnât have said it better myself.

If you are a fan of the blues then this CD is well worth a place in your collection.
