The Gimmick
Itâs not often that âboosting company moraleâ is part of a bandâs mission statement. For that matter, itâs not often that a band has a mission statementâor at least not one it would fess up to.

But Soft Gongâs not your average band. First conceived as a house band for Wirestone, a marketing solutions company, the Gong quickly eclipsed the gimmick of âcompany bandâ to become the âCadillac of cover bands,â and have now evolved into a songwriting force to be reckoned with.

The Sound
Irreverent? Tongue-in-cheek? Post ironic? Call it what you will, but the Soft Gong sound is a heart-felt salute to the power-pop groups these boys grew up withâBig Star, Badfinger, Cheap Trick, Marshall Crenshawâwith a 21st-century twist.

Inspiration aside, Soft Gongâs first CD of original tracks, Pretend You Need Me, delivers so many hooks that itâs love at first listen. Blame it on the hyper-groovability of âWhat Now, Juliaâ or the frat-boy sentiment behind âNight-School Sweetheartâ or the breezy reggae thump of âCoat of Paint.â But find an excuse fast, because these guys are as irresistible as they are irrepressible.
