Dion Read & The Afterthoughts are one of the new young crop of exciting singer/songwriter bands to emerge out of Melbourne, Australia. Recently completing their debut release, âThe Shoes and Gloves EP,â The Afterthoughts fuse Dionâs love of a well-crafted song with hard hitting piano and sharp wit, creating unique and sophisticated pop.

Raised on a diet of â60s pop, Dion branched out from classical piano training, teaching himself early Ben Folds songs and forming an instrumental Jazz/Pop trio in school, before finishing a Bachelor of Music degree at QUT Brisbane. He has composed music for film and wrote the music for the Judges Choice award winning performance in the 2007 Short and Sweet Dance Festival in Sydney.

A move to Melbourne in 2005 saw Dion link up with drummer Kyle Goldsworthy and bassist James K Pere, who form the Afterthoughts, the backbone of Dionâs live shows and recordings. Kyle has a strong background in Melbourneâs live music scene and is an endorsee of DeeJay drums. James recently returned from England where he spent his time studying music and drinking beer.

Dion Read & The Afterthoughts recently launched themselves on to the live scene with two shows at the iconic St. Kilda bar Veludo and have been featured both online and on television through Triple J Unearthed with the song âUnloving Youâ.
