Will Rose, native Nevadan, has been a singer, songwriter, musician, for over 40 years. He has a vast career which has spanned the US and Europe. In the last 10 he added playwright and composer to his list. His songs are stories that express his unique outlook on life and his attitude on everything from Yucca Mountain and excessive use of force issues to the environment, homelessness, and Hurricane Katrina. Will, Sheree Rose on Percussion and Washboard, Roger Haas on Drums, and Frank Falcioni on bass, comprise a formidable concert band, a funky groove dance band, and an audience rocking theatrical orchestra. Calling the group Red Rose, these fine musicians perform all over Nevada. They are dedicating a portion of the proceeds from this self titled album to the Musicians struggling to rebuild their lives and careers after Hurricane Katrina.
A little about each song on the album:
Once in a Blue Moon â Back in the hippie days, the social event of the year was the Silver City Firemanâs Ball. People would come from all over the Comstock to listen to Sutro Sympathy Orchestra and raise hell till the early morning hours. We still carry that tradition on today, except instead of annually, itâs âonce in a blue moonâ. This is for all my pals in the Silver City Volunteer Fire Department.

Whydoyoualwayswanttofightaboutit?- If this is too much of a mouthful for ya, remember what John Lennon said, âGive Peace a Chance.â

Big Wind- Some of the first bands I ever heard were surf bands. We used to drive from Las Vegas down to the beach every weekend. Weâd go surfing all day and at night weâd go to the Rendezvous Ballroom in Laguna Beach or the Huntington Beach Pier to listen to Dick Dale or The Chantays. I loved the sound of those reverb and treble up all the way guitars. Big Wind was first named Mile Zero, for a place we used to surf.

Bon Ton Rouele- Iâve never been to New Orleans (my wife has), but I love the music. My friend Steamer Adams, turned me on to the Nevilleâs years ago. Theyâve had a lot of influence on the stuff I write. This is one of the songs from our musical âBig Windâ. I started writing the show right after Hurricane Katrina.

Homeless Man - Both Sheree and I have our causes. Hers is the Homeless. She wrote this one and I reggaed it up. (I wrote this to show the human side to this horrible condition. Sheree)

Itâs Mardi Gras â Another one of the tunes from our musical âBig Windâ, which raised money for the Musicians in New Orleans hurt by Katrina.

In Old Las Vegas â I was born and raised in Las Vegas. During the 50âs and 60âs I remember the âRat Packâ, the mob, and the great lounge entertainers like Louie Prima, Sam Butera, and Freddie Bell. The town had soul!

Radioactive Fears - Hereâs another early Las Vegas memory. My mom would take me to up to Mt. Charleston to watch them explode Atomic Bombs at the test site. You would listen to the countdown on your car radio and turn away from the flash. (It would blind you if you looked directly at it) and then as the mushroom cloud would rise over the desert everyone would applaud. Letâs hear it for death and destruction, Yay!!

Ode to Bob McKinney - Several years ago, a homeless man was killed by a sheriffâs deputy in front of a bunch of summer tourists in Virginia City. His crime was not complying with the deputyâs command to put down the 3 inch penknife he used to pick cigarette butts out from between the cracks in the boardwalk.
Be careful when you go to Virginia City and donât piss the cops off.
