"Walking Home", the second solo record from Oklahoma native Robert Williams, fits best into the roots-alt country-Americana genres. Infused with a bit of country, the songs on "Walking Home" are sophisticated tales of the modern human condition.

Details:
Singer-songwriter Robert Williams comes from a place no other American singer-songwriter can lay claim to. Born and raised in Oklahoma, his crossroads meet at a dark little gin joint where Kurt Weil vamps and Hank Williams sings lonesome, heartbroken melodies.
Already earning a living from his music at the age of 19, Williams ran away to Berlin in 1969 and quickly found himself caught up in a thriving music scene rife with a nightly smorgasbord of stellar musicians, singing transvestites, multi-lingual songwriters and countless other denizens of the hippest scene going.
Back in the States in the mid-70s, Robertâs musical journey took him through the folk clubs and roadhouses of Oklahoma and Texas, where he continued to forge his sound, blending folk, blues and rock with the melodic European cabaret style that had caught his imagination in Berlin. A stint in L.A. found Williams working with Little Featâs Richie Hayward and George Marinelli (guitarist for Bruce Hornsby and Bonnie Raitt).
A soulful guitar and mandolin player, Williamsâ melodies make full use of his knowledge of unusual chords and tunings. Unburdened by artistic borders, he isnât afraid to travel through the many worlds of human emotion in his songs.
Folker Magazine says of Robert:
âHis roots in Berlin (1969) go almost as deep as those in Oklahoma (his childhood), with direct artistic results: In Robert Williamsâ songs, his powerful American blues/country/folk heritage is expertly fused with European delicacies. We would like to see artists from âGodâs own countryâ do this more often.â
These days, Robert tours mostly in Europe with his new Berlin Band, a group of motley international troubadours featuring Berliners Ron Randolf (guitar, mandolin, Cajon) and Thomas Baumgarte (contra bass). They will be back on the road together in early 2008, playing shows in Germany and Egypt to promote Robertâs new cd âWalking Home.â
When not writing and playing music, Robert is a professor of applied linguistics at the American University in Cairo.
