Details:
A wash of classic pop and rock 'n roll, (tinged with California country and a good dose of psychedelia) dreamachine is the brainchild of singer/songwriter and guitarist Jason Reed. Steeped in the pop archetype of White Album era Beatles, the harmonic grandeur of the Beach Boys, and the pure girth of early Led Zeppelin, 'lulling her to speak' is a reflection of a myriad of influences ingested and reconfigured in the mind of a self-admitted "pop music obsessive".
The EP was initially conceived to be a 'bedroom' concept record, but the project soon grew to be an overwhelming undertaking. "I had to get past the countless retakes and search for perfection," Jason notes. "There's something about everyone in a room playing live with and off each other, and allowing a certain air of imperfection into a record. You can feel the inspiration and the energy- it becomes the soul of the record."
He quickly enlisted the help of friends and tackled the project with more of a group dynamic. The band, consisting of Austin DeLone (Elvis Costello, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Nick Lowe) on the keys, Larry Cragg (Neil Young, Nils Lofgren) on pedal steel, Steve Dubois (Johnny Nitro, Lee Simmons) on drums and Paul Dowling (Sonny Lowe, Lee Simmons) on bass, proved to be a dynamic force in the studio, imparting each song with a sense of life and breath sorely missing in today's pop landscape.
"The ultimate drive of dreamachine," remarks Jason, "is to write the perfect pop song, but I think I tend to enjoy getting lost along the way- indulging a whim for sound and texture for it's own sake. I think the marriage of the two provides the most rewarding listening experience."
